Amarnath Yatra Declared No-Fly Zone After Terror Attack Shakes Pahalgam

A new directive has declared the Amarnath Yatra 2025 routes as a ‘No Flying Zone’, strengthening security after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The Jammu and Kashmir government announced that starting July 1 until August 10, all aerial platforms, including drones and balloons, are strictly banned along the pilgrimage routes.

This decision follows the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, prompting heightened measures to protect pilgrims.

Amarnath Yatra Flight Ban

The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, following orders from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, imposed this comprehensive and immediate ban. It blocks all aviation platforms and devices, including drones, UAVs, and balloons, along both Pahalgam and Baltal axes. However, the government allowed specific exceptions for medical evacuations, disaster management, essential relief efforts, and security force surveillance.

Authorities will soon issue a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) outlining these exceptions. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs advised full aerial restrictions to maintain strict vigilance during the sensitive and high-risk pilgrimage.

All stakeholders thoroughly assessed the security situation and unanimously agreed to add additional logistical support and enforce stronger measures for this year’s yatra.

Pilgrimage Under Heavy Security

The annual Amarnath Yatra will start on July 3, attracting thousands of pilgrims from across the country. Authorities have stepped up security following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, ensuring no disruptions occur during the pilgrimage. Security personnel have already strengthened patrols and installed advanced surveillance systems across the designated routes.

Federal and state agencies now actively coordinate their efforts to maintain strict safety protocols. Officials have enforced a ban on drones and balloons to prevent aerial threats and eliminate any risks of unauthorised surveillance or attacks. The administration has left no stone unturned, implementing robust security layers, deploying additional forces, and closely monitoring intelligence inputs to avoid any untoward incidents.

Officials have also improved logistical support, ensuring that all the emergency services remain ready throughout the pilgrimage. The government aims to guarantee that the yatra proceeds peacefully, reflecting its strong commitment to every pilgrim’s safety and well-being.
